Inspired by the 'mince pie' thread! Mine is when relations try to better each other by buying better/more presents.

the fact that it lasts about 4 1/2 months these days

Also the financial pressures on people are way to much, its more of a commercial/materialistic holiday feast than anything else now.

The fact that everyday off feels like a Sunday.

    And Sundays suck.

Also, the compulsive need by the older generations to stock up as if they just got the four minute warning. FFS the shops are open again on Stephens Day, not closed for a solid week
    .
Seriously, you don't need that extra box of USA biscuits! :pac:

That the Christmas decorations and adverts and songs are everywhere from at least 2months before it. That it's a 2month long shopping holiday, and it makes it impossible to get around and do normal stuff. I haven't experienced christmas in dublin yet,but I know what to expect. Queues ****ing everywhere

Only people who complain about it, it's the only time of year that most people get along and there's always some grumpy dłck who has to complain that he hates it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,332 ✭✭✭Guill

Not too fond of the fond of the Mikado biscuits me Ma stocks up on, otherwise roll on:

    Mulled Wine,
    X-mas markets,
    Pate,
    Turkey,
    Ham,
    Pressies,
    Brandy and Port/Baileys,
    Stephens day betting,
    Board games,
    open fire,
    Etc,
    Etc.

One thing i do hate bout X-mas is the stores and broadcasters forcing it on us too soon. Mid december is when i get into the swing of it, if a X-mas song comes on the radio, i change the station.

Thank christ im finished with that, you'd swear people hadnt had a drink in 6 months by the way they drink that day. Its a joke

Don't like anything about it tbh. The stress, the money issues, the constant hard sell, other peoples over drinking, meeting family you don't see from one Xmas to the next it's all bollox.

People should act like it's Christmas every day.

The Christmas spirit: not just for Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭yeppydeppy

I don't mind christmas, sure they try and force us to buy stuff from November but I can ignore most of that. What gets me is Christmas music! I effin hate it with a passion! Having worked in a supermarket at christmas time for a few years and listened to the same music on a loop, over and over and over, jesus h. christ spare me.

The same films on year in year out,
the tired hackneyed meaningless religious nonsense,
the vapid empty commercialism, (see religious nonsense, above)
    annoying relatives,
    christmas songs,

Only good things are the near industrial amounts of booze and food that I can't get away with any other time of year.

I hate the fact that I'm always too late to get the Pink Wafer and the Chocolate with red jelly biscuits from the box of USA!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,770 ✭✭✭LeeHoffmann

    The ads.

I hate ads. I always hate ads. If I could bring in one law, it just might be to ban ads.

Christmas ads for children's toys = probably the worst kind of ads. Manipulative, nasty, brain-washing ads that enforce gender stereotypes, put extreme financial pressure on parents, and detract from the feel-good love-your-neighbour celebratory atmosphere of Christmas.

    I love Christmas

The usual reports of skanger oul wans on the news whinging about having to go to money lenders to borrow four grand to buy their fat, stupid kids new tracksuits and ipads and ****e like that.

Every Christmas my single 36 year old cousin gets polluted and sobs hysterically about being alone and wanting a baby.

    It's awkward :/

Christmas songs, not being able to move for people trying to sell you stuff, chuggers/anyone with good intentions trying to get money off you, the fact I'm stupid and impulse buy things (food n that) because I think i'll need them (when I don't).

The deflation when it's all over.

I would like to state that I only have 2 present left to buy though, just to make you all sick :)

Oh yeah # LeeHoffman - the ads. The stupid radio ads that have already started up - Concern's "Job done" one, those agonising Rhinestones ads (at least they finally got rid of the 'My Joe's an idiot' one they use to have, that goat in the Gorta ad that I'd like to slap). ARAGHHHHHHH!

Christmas work dinners, have five to go to this year. They wreck the whole month of December. Thought with the depression companies might cut them out. Said that they are still going ahead in order to raise spirits. If you want to raise spirits give a bonus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,732 ✭✭✭ollaetta

The falseness of it all. Wall to wall smiley happy people wishing goodwill to all and sundry while totally ignoring them for the rest of the year.

    Oh, and fuppin' carol singers!!!:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,635 ✭✭✭eth0

The presents these days. The mandatory consumer electronics that will be obsolete in two years, things that come with subscriptions, toys, shoite from China, crap cheap tacky decorations, people who havn't lost their Job yet completely overdoing it with tons of lights outside the house

Really how Americanised it's become. Which is strange because all the tangible goods that make it Americanised come from China

Looking forward to Christmas so much and then when it comes you realise how much you can't stand your family and end up praying for the holidays to be over just so you can get away from them all!
