Trying to remember name of drama/documentary

Hi all

Ive been trying to remember the name of a television drama that was aired on Sunday evenings in the summer of 2005 on a UK main channel:

It was about a girl/woman who had been deported for some crime or other and was sent to Australia or New Zealand..had a mighty hard time working hard labour for some Army or other, I think it might have been the British Army, but not sure...

Based on a true story, she eventually made it back to Cornwall or Dorset and lived there for the rest of her days.

It was called something like " **** ****** War".

The ** denote the womans name.

Oh my good god ! That's it! Thanks Brian. Long story, shortened, I was was v I'll in hospital for a good while then, some of the scenes were very inspiring, especially the one where she faced the dilemma of returning to the shore to save male colleagues by giving them a place in the rowing boat. But she looked at her 2 young children also in the boat with her, and left the other men on the beach to face certain execution, powerful stuff. Thanks Brian.
