Learner Permit Enquiry

Hope some of you can shine some light on this as it's a bit of a grey area. I got my current learner permit in Summer 2010 for Category W (Tractor) as I was aged sixteen at the time. No I've turned 17, I can update my permit to include the B (Car) category. My question is though, as this is my second learner permit, does this mean I am not subject to the mandatory 12 EDT lessons? I plan on taking a number of lessons anyway before the test but I would struggle to fork out for all twelve. Does anybody now if I'm compelled to do so?

No, as it isn't your second learner permit, it is your first 'category B' learner permit, which means you are subject to the same restrictions as usual - 12 compulsory lessons, can't drive unless accompanied by a driver who has held their full B licence for 2 years or more, can't sit the test until you have held your B Learner Permit for 6 months (as in, 6 months from the date of issue of the B part of your learner permit, the one you will be applying for).
