    Hi,

I have a quick question in relation to the Coolant System in a car. The coolant resovoir how does it top up the water jacket of the engine, There is a pressurised expansion valve on top of the radiator that lets water back into the resovoir if the engine gets hot,

What prevents the water from being pushed back into Coolant resovoir from the main exit of the Coolant container?

Water pump generally pushes fluid around the engine in one direction.

    What car is it?

Is the "pressurised expansion valve" the thermostat?

Im just talking about any cars in General.

The Pressurised Expansion valve is the filler cap on top of the Radiator, That lets the water recirculate into the reservoir if there is to much pressure in the Engine water jacket when the car is hot.

Why does the Water pressure not drive the water back into the main pipe of Coolant resovoir, Is there something stopping this i.e. valve

When the stat is open the coolant is in the "engine water jacket", rad and expansion tank and all the pipework. The water pump pumps it around. When the stat is closed the rad and expansion tank are cut off from the "engine water jacket" loop.
