Just had a thought after wathcing one of those police chase programmes that we see so much of on the UK channels.

Do the Garda have the same powers as their Uk counterparts, to seize a vehicle where there is no insurance, NCT, roadtax, the driver has no licence or is driving on a provisional but with no qualified driver ?

A mate of mine nearly had his car siezed when we were in Cork. Only reason they didn't was cause he said he had no money to get back home (Kildare). I don't know if they're legally obliged to get him home or if they just felt sorry for him.

They can seize a car with no tax or insurance I think, but I doubt they'd seize a car just for a provisional holder driving unaccompanied, lots of my mates have been stopped driving on a provisional and they got no hassle.Suppose it depends on who the person stopped is and what the Garda is like.
