Folks is dieting a simple case of eating less calories than you use? For example if I eat 1 banana a day and do regular exercise do I have to lose weight or does the body try to protect itself and hold onto the fact

Not sure if this is a serious question or not? But if it is, you will lose weight, but not just fat. You'll end up looking like Christain Bale from the machinist.

There are a lot of silly myths about dieting, the most common being that if you reduce your calories too far, your body will stop losing fat, and even make you gain weight. This is nonsense. Using this logic, it's impossible starve to death.

What does happen is that if you reduce calories too much, you get starving hungry, and you eventually go on a binge. Or you start to cheat. Or you are so tired and hungry that you stop exercising.

Reducing calories below maintanance will make you lose weight. If you do this by eating nothing but jelly babies, you'll be starving and you'll look rubbish. If you eat enough protein and fat and lots of green veg, you'll feel like a human being and can have a life as well as a diet.
