Tiny Hebridean island with population of just 220 suffers its first crime

    It is the sort of place where the locals leave their doors unlocked, untroubled by the fear of crime.

    Yet the residents of Coll have been shocked to discover there is a law-breaker living in their midst.

    For the tiny Hebridean island - with its population of just 220 - has been forced to report the first officially logged criminal act that anyone can remember for many years.

    After public property was deliberately vandalised - believed to be the first known act of vandalism the island had to report - residents had no choice but to call in the police.

    And because the island is so remote and difficult to reach, it even took the ‘local’ bobby two days to arrive.

    Now an appeal for witnesses has been launched and islanders urged to keep their eyes open to try and track down the culprit.
