My opinion is that he's done magnificently well.

He's yet to be given the opportunity to prove himself as a top striker yet but i'm sure if he was to stay injury free and get a proper season of first team football under his belt we could be seeing a proper 20+ league goal a season striker!

He's a fantastic striker, one of the best in the league, and imo, better than Welbeck. He has a phenomenol work-rate too, which is always a plus. On top of that, he seems to be a very nice person, which makes him all the more likeable.

Inside the box hes brillant . Outside he's still poor imo .

Holding the ball up and bringing other people into the game he needs a lot of work .

He's done very well and has been an absolute bargain. He'd be moving onto another level had we provided a good quality passing midfielder to compliment his ability to make runs behind the defence.

To sign a genuine, guaranteed out and out goalscorer for just £6m was some business.

Needs to work on his all round game but his finishing, movement and work rate are all world class.

He is similar to Ruud van Nistelrooy in so many ways. He comes alive in the penalty box and he has that knack of being in the right place at the right time and finding a way to put the ball in the net. His back-header goal at Stoke last year was just incredible.

Phenomenal year for him, had an excellent world cup and then came to United and lookd like he had been playing at the highest level. He has that goalscoring instinct that you can't teach, is quick, amazing in the air. As others have said he needs to improve his game outside the box, especially his ability to get involved in the build up. Its not good enough at United to be a goal scorer only and thats why I see Welbeck as being just a shade ahead of him at the moment.

However I have confidence that in time he will develop his all round game as players invariably do when they come to United. Andy Cole would be a good template for him to follow - when he came he was a goal poacher only but over the years becam top class at holding the ball off, bringing others into the game and being an all round centre forward.

Seems like a lovely, humble person as well which is always a nice bonus and a rarity in the modern game. Genuinely seems to ge grateful for the opportunities he has been given.

I agree with others. In the box he is lethal, outside not so much. Still time to improve.

Not really because he plays with utd. There are several players with several clubs that I wouldn't be too bothered about to be honest.

Suarez may be better with the ball at his feet but at the end of the day, they are both strikers and their primary job is goal scoring, so lets take a look at their records since they came to england

Javier Hernandez 18 goals in 38 appearances

Luis Suarez 8 goals in 24 appearances

bear in mind Hernandez also scored alot of those goals coming off the bench plus his international record is better also

Dzeko has more league goals then Rooney this season. Does that make him better then Rooney?

Hernandez is the proverbial "fox in the box". He has an eye for goal and a knack of being in the right place at the right time. His all round game does need improvement, i think everyone can see that. He plays on the shoulder of the last defender and with some more creativity in the middle and him learning to time his runs a tad better, he will become even more of a goal threat.
Some comparisons mentioned are a bit off the mark i feel. Someone compared him to Van Nistelrooy. While i can see the similiarity when comparing their effectiveness inside the box, Ruud was a far better player all round than Hernandez. He could physically hold up the ball better(physically much bigger too), link up play and was technically more skillful. But Ruud was a definite world class striker so bit harsh to point out the differences between the two at this stage as there is still more to come from Hernandez.
I actually would have Welbeck slightly ahead of him at the moment. Welbeck links up better, can play either side as well as through the middle but also carries a goal threat.
Bottom-line is that it was a fantastic piece of business. We have a genuine poacher in the squad and when you consider his age and what he has shown in a sort space of time we have a potentially fantastic strike force for the next number of years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,219 ✭✭✭✭Pro. F

Already he is a fantastic goal poacher. His movement and finishing are world class.

Most people are saying that he needs to improve his all round game, but I'm not too worried about that. Yes it would be nice if he was better in build but play but:

1 He's not that bad, his control is good and his passing is okay.
2 It's not that important for his game, he is the classic fox in the box. It's what he does off the ball that's most important. His movement opens up space for the rest of the team and ensures he will always be there to finish.

Most teams in the world he would be a guaranteed starter already. At United he has to compete with Welbeck, another star in the making. The two will probably share the games for as long as they are both at United.

Rooney hasnt played upfront in months and I was comparing Suarez and Hernandez over a longer period of time. Look at their international records aswell

Hernandez 23 in 33 games for mexico

Suarez 26 in 52 games for ururguay

He has played up front properly since Cleverley got injured, he was in midfield for most of the game yesterday

Yes he has. He played the same position he has played for all last season yesterday - just behind the front man. That was the same position he played when Cleverly was playing this season.

Yes he has. I think your argument is flawed on the basis that you seem to pay far more attention to the goals scored stats then to actual performances. Hernandez is great poacher, but aside from that he doesn't add much. Suarez adds far more to the Liverpool side then just his goals.

Was Andy Cole a better player then Bergkamp? He scored more goals at Utd then Bergkamp did at Arsenal

No. The facts you provided might back up the argument that Hernandez is better at putting the ball in the net, but they don't definitively back up the argument that he's the better player.

Do you have facts on chances created by Hernandez and Suarez since they arrived in England? ...Oh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,165 ✭✭✭MANUTD99

I would be interested to see stats on Suerez like assists. He looks a better all round ball player, he can hold the ball up, tackle, but he needs about 5 or 6 chances to score 1 goal, unlike Chico, one sniff and he'll score. He gets himself offside to much though and wouldn't think his assist count would be high

you can that about alot of footballers. thing is, very few of them will have almost 50 goals at top flight club and international level in 20 months.

he has his flaws, but he is a breath of fresh air for the club and the league. seems so humble.

Not really the area to be improved IMO, he plays primarily as the most forward striker so he may need to work on his passing/control/holding up the ball to bring others into the game, but his goalscoring ability from close range compensates for any lack of long range scoring.

Hernandez is a better finisher but in all round play Suarez is light years ahead.

They rank on a par in the racism stakes too allegedly.
