    Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum you can move if required. Just want advice for buying items of ebay. i am buying a expensive enough 2.7k of computer equitment. The guy i have been dealing with is a top rated seller and has his own ebay shop. He has 100 % positive feedback. I contacted about the equitment as there is different configs that can be done to get that price down initial it was 3.5k i got him down by accepting he could give cosmetically damaged equitment that was still fully functional and i would buy direct off him through paypal so he would not be charged the seller fee by ebay etc. The whole operation looks very professional i am just concerned about paying out 2.7k alot of money to risk if it is a scam. My question is what kind of protection do i get using paypal is there any further things i can do to protect myself?? The guy is located in the uk i am considering going over on the ferry and bringing the stuff back but it is alot of hassle i would prefer not to. Anyone got any advice on any the above

    Cheers

You shouldn't really refer to it as an "Ebay big purchase", because on this basis it would have nothing to do with Ebay.

I've put several computers together over the years, and wouldn't use anyone on Ebay (with the exception of the odd small item), because I would never have been certain of what I was going to end up with.

    stop.

EBay isn't the place to buy large amounts of PC equipment for a start. 2.7k is overkill in that department anyway. before you drop the cash, browse on over to this forum and start a thread, listing the components you're looking at and the prices youre paying and some of the guys can look it over.

alternatively, start a thread and answer the questions in my signature and we can spec you up what you need. Itll definitely be under 2.7K anyway, and from a legitimate, professional bricks and mortar type retail company. One of the guys we use are the main suppliers to Amazon.

you've got nothing to lose getting a second opinion anyway.

The seller may have 100% positive feedback , but I bet it is for less costly items .
This seller possibly advertises his costlier items on eBay and then asks the buyer to complete the transaction outside of eBay to save on fees .

You have also agreed to buy ' cosmetically damaged equipment ' and this in itself is a dangerous admission prior to receiveing items .

If you had a Paypal claim later , I have no doubt the seller would use this admission , and there would be no guarantees that you would win your case .

Paypal fees of up to 3.4% plus 35 cent transaction charge. But these would be paid on top of ebay fees if payment was being made through paypal on ebay.

I think you should not take risk coz this is a large amount of money,if you have not bought from him before, take care
