    Hi all,
Have always been interested in arts and crafts and am now interested on starting working with mosaics- vases, picture frames, trinket boxes etc.

Does anyone know where I can get supplies to get started?

    Thanks.

Just buy tiles and learn on them. It will b e much cheaper, most tile shops have cheap stuff you can practice with.

Lots of tile shops have waste tiles that they will gladly give you free, only difficulty with using ordinary broken tiles is the colours are very limited especially at the moment every tile seems to be cream.:( They can be painted using glass and tile paint but getting coloured tiles give the best permanent result.

I don't know of any shops in ireland that sell tesserae (the special cut, small tiles) but you can buy them on ebay, postage will be expensive though as they are heavy.

Do you mind if I take over your thread for a minute OP?

I want to Mosaic a mirror as I can't find a mirror I like, I've never done this before, can tiles be stuck directly to the glass or would I need to create a mosaic frame first and fit the glass later? I found the perfect sized mirror in Argos for really cheap and I'd love to be able to just stick the tiles straight on.

    Thanks :)

Yes you can stick them straight on but I would use silicone rather than tile cement.

    Hi there

I've just done a mirror I would recommend using a frame to glue the tiles to.a normal wooded frame without any kind of finish on the wood is Preferable. They sell them in woodies. I would also say fit the glass at a later stage using the frame first is much easier but fit the glass just before you put the inner tiles in( if that makes sense?).

    Hope that helps:-)
