Toyota Yaris/Vitz brakes

    Hi all,
I have a '03 Toyota Yaris/ Vitz 1.3l .....the brakes have been making a squeaky grating noise after a particularly hard braking incident.

Brought into a 'chain' car servicing place to see if it was just grit and brakes needed cleaned.
It would seem that that pads were nearly gone especially on drivers side where the guy said there was damage to the disc.

They quoted me e120 to 'replace brakes'...didnt get the details
My own mechanic gave me a worst case discs and pads only price of about e100 not including labour.

Can discs be bought in singles or must it be pairs?
Was price should i honestly expect to pay?
Where i get the parts myself...good quality only?

Wheels are standard steel wheel[ not alloys] and tyres are 155/80 r13.

If there is damage to one of the discs, you will need to change both discs and pads in front because they should be changed in pairs and I don't think any mechanic would suggest to change one side only as it is dangerous.

I think 120 Euro is quite reasonable for the job( if it is discs+pads not only pads). And your tyre size doesn't affect this job.

Brakes are always replaced in pairs(axle set).

€120 is very cheap for pads and disks fitted but expensive for just pads.

You need to find out what they are quoting for.

thanks for the info...i'll ring em on monday and find out what they mean by 'replace'....i just assumed that a local mechanic would be a bit cheaper that a chain based in a city.....i guess they buy the parts in bulk tho!

Does anyone know of some one in the North Clare/Ennis/Limerick area that could do the job cheaper??????

As said, if they are fitting pads and disks for €120 then go and take their hand aswel!

I knew a couple of lads who worked in the limerick branch of advance and they were very good mechanics but this was a few years ago so I couldn't tell you if the same crew is there now.
