From the gaa.ie website of the official guide http://www.gaa.ie/content/documents/publications/official_guides/Official_Guide_2011_Part_1.pdf

    Page 93

    6.31 All-Ireland Finals
The All Ireland Senior Finals shall be played in Croke
Park: the Football Final shall be played on the penultimate
Sunday in September and the Hurling Final shall be
played two weeks previous. In exceptional circumstances,
the Central Council may make other arrangements.

Previously moved for Ryder cup also, no big deal. As well as for foot and mouth in the 40s.

Its probably to do with the American Football all right which is on at the Aviva.

People are proably going to kick up a whole big stink over this "Why should the GAA have to change it" etc etc

There's much less wiggle room involved with the game at the Aviva what with the whole handling of setting up the date and bringing everyone over for it. The GAA can have the finals any weekend they like and it's not going to make any difference. And if they had them on the same weekend the city wouldn't be able to cope with such a large influx of people on the same weekend (they're expecting 20,000 americans at the Aviva)

Just to clarify, the 2012 All Ireland Senior Hurling Final is set for Sunday September 9th, 2012, the 2012 All Ireland Senior Football Final is set for Sunday September 23rd, 2012. This is in accordance with the rules of the GAA, as posted by mrgaa1. The finals in 2013 will also be a week later than usual, also because the month of September has five Sundays as opposed to four. This has nothing to do with American Football matches. The dates have not been switched.

If there wasn't a match on elsewhere.... they would still have changed the dates.
    Non event really.

In 1997 amendments were made to the format of the All Ireland Hurling Championshipsto allow beaten provincial finalists were allowed to re-enter the All Ireland series at the quarter final stage. The GAA calendar was adjusted at this time. The All Ireland Hurling finals in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 all took place on the second Sunday of September. Check out the dates on the programmes if you dont believe me.

THE DATES HAVE NOT BEEN SWITCHED!

We ought to thank the GAA for sensible scheduling to allow as many people as possible to see as many different events they're interested in as possible, the OP's sneering, insular tone is a feature of the embarrassing, conservative, borderline xenophobic attitude that has held the GAA back for a hundred years.

    Thankfully, it's dying.

The American Football is on the Saturday, why would they move it when it's not even on the same day:rolleyes:
