    Hi. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for the sort of charges I am likely to incur for importing electronic equipment from China or Hong Kong for personal use - e.g. something like this microcontroller programmer?

    Obviously if the charges are excessive, I would be better off importing it from UK (even if the pre-tax price is 3-4 times higher).

    I'm conscious that this info is probably on revenue.ie in some barely decipherable form - but if some body could save me the hassle of searching for a needle in a haystack I'd appreciate it.

    You won't be charged anything so long as the package is less than €22 in value.

    Hello DSLC,

    have a look at the following thread ;

    If indeed the total value of the package is less than € 22.00 - including the shipping - then indeed you would not face any VAT. The import duty for this item should be zero.
