Aer Lingus or BMI to Heathrow?

I need to fly into Heathrow (& out again obviously) in a little over a week's time. I need to book the flights soon, but looking at the prices, there's a €50 difference going out & €35 on the way back using BMI (cheaper).

I'm being reimbursed for the flights but am conscious of "wasting" money.

Would I be better off paying the extra & going Aer Lingus because it'll be pretty much guaranteed to go on time or save the extra & book BMI & hope to get out on time.

I'll be in london for just the day & travelling without luggage (apart from laptop).

My experience of both airlines (or actually any airline operating at LHR) is that punctuality is by no means guaranteed.

    Go with whoever is cheapest!

Thanks, primary concern is getting out of Dublin in the morning. There's about ten minutes between flights.

Both flights get held on the ground at Dublin until they are cleared by LHR. The ten minute earlier flight could get there ten minutes later. That's just the way Heathrow is.

As for the airlines themselves, I much prefer BMI, but I wouldn't pay extra to use them.

Why would that be the case?

I wouldn't pay that much extra to fly Aer Lingus on a short hop to Heathrow, I haven't found them to be any more punctual than other airlines.

I much prefer BMI, too - and, without any disrespect intended to your opinion, I would be prepared to pay extra to fly with them.

Why? Well, I've had quite a few unhappy experiences with Aer Lingus - most notably in January 2011 when there was a strike on...

I haven't had any with BMI, though - and I've found its service to be that bit more pleasant. :)

It wouldn't bother me on a short trip, the decision would come down to suitable timings, price and baggage interline agreements if transferring to a different airline.

Have used them both and not much between them really. What I like about BMI is that you are not charged extra for checked in baggage so the first price you get online is basically what you pay.
