EWI...lots of questions

1920s house solid walls..no interest in pulling house apart to do internal insualtion so resigned to external insulation. Lots of questions

    1. I have very rough pebbledash - does that need to be treated / smoothed down before insulation is applied?

    2. If the product to be used is rockwool does pebbledash still need to be smoothed off

    3. Soffit cant be removed because its made of concrete so insualtion will be run up to it.

    4. Ground level layer of insulation will be water resistent

    5. I live in a terrace and when I asked about cold getting in on the sides (neither of my neighbours have EWI) the guy from the company told me that they didnt do anything in particular and that it would be "fine" - does that sound reasonable?

    6. He also said I should think about changing my windows - they are aluminium from c 20 years ago..his rationale was they would be the coldest thing in the room by lots and would attract condensation...which they do a little already if its v cold outside. Do people think his suggestion is reasonable

Woudl appreciate PMs with recommendations / stay a mile away from warnings for EWI companies in Dublin

    Thanks

    FG1 :)

the concrete soffit will be a hugh thermal bridge

ditto with the edges of your neighbours houses.

pebble could be rendered level first: are the fixings mechanical or dabs?

if u replace windows u need to do in conjunction with the ewi and , in an ideal world, to get a decent amount of ewi on the reveals and to keep the visible windows the same as they are u need to trim a bit off the 2 reveals and raise the head

IMO, ewi not the right answer here.

    fun girl,
If your going for the grant you will need a BER assessor to certify the upgrades. so, why not get an assessor who is an arch or arch tech and get them to do a specification and a few basic details to ensure that the job is done correctly. you have an old house, you could do with a professional to ensure adequate ventilation is retained and the right materials used...

get someone who definitely understands thermal bridging and ventilation issues of an old house:)
