This isn't really a big deal but will just throw it out there anyway.

I had a savings account with AIB that I closed about a week and a half ago.

It was normally paid by direct debit each monday. As I closed it in the branch in which it was set up I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that there would be no more debits taken. I had tried to remove the standing order with the bank via internet banking but could not do so and have been hit with an unpaid fee. The letter of cancellation did not arrive with them in time.

    Is the unpaid fee refundable?

I would suggest talking to someone in branch. They may refund this as a GOGW but I think several days notice have to be given to cancel a standing order or DD which is probably why it went through.
