Not sure what to eat....

So I started cycling recently, for a few reasons. 1. To motivate me to stop smoking. 2. To get fit. 3. To lose some baby weight I am carrying.

The main reason is fitness. But I would like to think through exercising I will lose some weight also. My problem is, I am starving when I get back from cycling. Like today when I got back I had two hard boiled eggs and two slices of toast, one digestive biscuit with my tea and I could have kept eating. I don't want to starve myself but I don't want to over eat either.

So, what would be the best thing to eat when I get in? I know a key part of losing weight for me is to reduce my portion size. But at the same time I don't want to be eating a smaller portion of something that is going to make me gain weight/ muscle mass. I am 14 stone right now and I would like to get down to 11 stone. That is the idea weight for my height and would leave me with a size 12 figure which I would be perfectly happy with, I have no will, want or desire to be a rake. :pac:

    So any suggestions?

BTW low fat anything turns my stomach so I would prefer where possible to avoid anything low fat/diet.

    I've a few questions,
Have you read the stickies? mainly this one
Also have you considered doing weights(not little pink 4kg dumbbells)? Read this thread
There was another question but I've forgotten it:o

Also low fat stuff isn't really good for you for instance take low fat yogurt they fill it with sugar to make it taste nice again, it happens alot with low fat stuff. Fat also fills you up better and it's needed to be healthy.

My partner has weights here and is very good at them, I am sure he would be happy to help me with that one thumbup.gif

Yeh I did hear that before the low fat food are bad in other ways. I personally don't like them or want them. I always thought, your body needs a certain amount of fat, just not too much. Everything in moderation. Unfortunately that kinda goes out the window when your pregnant. :pac: Baby gets what baby wants. :)

Typical, using pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever you want...... :D

You should take something small with you to eat on the bike so that you aren't as hungry when you get back. I take a small banana and eat it half way round.

Bloody right, its the only time in life I get an excuse to eat whatever I want. LOL This was baby number two and all I wanted was chipper food and pizza, baby number one had me eating avacados and beetroot at 4am in the morning, so it really is whatever baby wants. :pac: I still gained 2 1/2 st on each though, so it is much of a muchness, it just came off a lot quicker and easier on Baby No1.

Never thought of that, might try that tomorrow.

After the gym one day I had a protein bar and a banana, I couldn't believe I was full after it. I ended up serving my dinner on a side plate because I couldn't eat that much.

I got them because I wanted something to eat when I left the gym(that wouldn't go mushy/melt in the locker) alot of the time I stop by in the supermarket it saves me buying more food than I actually eat. I ate half of it in the shop, bought bananas and the banana when I got home and had the rest of the bar.

It sounds like a good idea, but they aren't cheap are they. Out of work at the min, so kinda broke.:(

Those are probably the more expensive ones(I'm not working either but I budget well, as well as not spending money on smoking, drinking, car, tv so I save money for a while, even 10euro a week adds up nicely) you can find cheaper ones out there but just watch out for the amount protein and sugar. I've seen some that are crap.

But you could have real food after your cycle, maybe have a chicken salad with smoked tomato pesto as a dressing waiting for you. I just use the bar for when I can't get something proper.

You should work out how many kcals you need(in links) and use something like fitday so add everything up. I'm currently struggling to take in as many cals as I want to and I'm aiming to get my bodyfat down, although I am experimenting a bit.

I know you probably don't have half of the ingredints here OP but a once off expensive purchase will save you money in the long run if you're interested in protein bars, here's a link to some home made ones in the nutrition and diet forum:

Other then that all I can really advise you to do is look at the stickys as fixing your diet overall will make a much bigger difference to your well being than simply adding a protein bar after a cycle.
