All of a sudden i've no sound from my iphone. Calling people is fine but when it comes to music, sound from videos, radio apps etc there's just nothing. The volume thing doesn't even appear on screen for songs etc.

I've tried rebooting it and updated the software but no luck. Anybody know anything about this?

I've the same problem - can I ask OP - are you on the latest iOS ? - I have non jail broken iPhone 4 with latest iOS - sound from speaker works for calls - iPod - video and key clicks don't - have tried resets/restores etc - and cleaning connectors and sound jack - problems started 2 days ago as well

Just an update - looks to me like update 5.0.1 is bad news - got most (not all ) of my sounds back by deleting all my music from iTunes and removing about 20 apps and then synching - after a year of perfect performance from my iPhone - have to say I'm very disappointed - the latest update from apple looks to me to be the problem

I seem to have the opposite problem since I updated when i make a call I can hear the person I am talking to fine but they can't hear me I thought it was a problem with the hardware but it started the day I updated my OS could this be the cause

Its definitely bad software I think - my theory is that whatever they are messing with to improve the battery life has something to do with it.

One thing you could try is see if voice control works - (keep home button pressed in) - if you can see it responding then you know its software

What I did was start removing apps and music and I turned off iCloud.
Might be worth a try in your case.
