Hi guys I know this is a classic car forum and I am building a classic boat :) but I thought some of you guy's might know a good place to get parts rechromed I have rebuilt a V8 engine for the boat and want to keep the v8 theme running in the detail one of the parts I want rechromed is a 1936 ford hood badge that I hope to use as a bow handle, the only place I could find was "Tubular steel" has anyone used them or is there anywhere else that can do a good job.
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for that I sent them an email with some photos to see what sort of price they will come back with. :) but I don't like the sound of mixed reviews :D
I understand there are different types of chroming and I am looking for hard chroming not the kind that you would find on a bar stool or bathroom rail but thicker like a car bumper and able to withstand a bit of weather.

Too late now (maybe) but you could have got a b/n one of these on ebay..with the complete "V" ...tbh no-one will rechrome that type of alloy part here...i send mine to the UK....i'd say youre looking at £60-80 for rechroming ...very intricate to polish...

    darby plating
    http://www.derbyplating.co.uk/
are by far the best I've seen ! not cheep but there chrome stands the test of time, imho the older ones are usually made of better stuff than re pros I'd rather get the original re-done.

Maybe ,but the amount of polishing required to get rid of all the pitting is time consuming..and then no chromer will guarantee these alloy parts ..

Get it polished and lacquered....much cheaper...;)

Thats the hottest trolley i've ever seen............:D

I will see what price they come back to me with and if it's around €100 I will get done as I think it would be better not to have the full V on the boat as it will catch in the ropes and break off anyway :D

Chrome plating is porous, so the good guys will plate your part with nickel or maybe copper first in order to give it better protection and also to provide better adhesion for the chrome plating afterwards. Make sure to ask if they do this before you give them your cash :)
