the following was posted on FB

    REAL Digital TV
Thank you to everyone who has shown concern on the recent issues regarding Maplin. We are attempting to get to the bottom of this with our manufacturers and Maplin themselves and will update everyone as soon as we can. As far as we are concerned we are on track and will be able to announce an on shelf date very shortly. We are also in the progress of making final minor tweaks to the service and should be announcing official channel line up, as well as future pay package plans at the same time

The main point is a Pay TV alternative with Sky Sports. They can't give a firm date when they might have that.

There is no point as a FTA platform with a 3rd Proprietary EPG, which unlike Sky box without a card it appears will need their viewing card to work at all.

Agree with that, there's really no point without pay tv. Although, maybe they have to launch with no pay to prove the encryption works?

At the very least, they'd want to be clear that their receivers will work as a FTA receiver if it went belly up.

For all the criticism they shipped, RTE were right to hold off getting involved.

    Came across this on http://www.flysat.com/28east.php

    12688 H DVB-S/MPEG-2 22000 1/2 Real Digital Home (IP-TV)

    Anyone know what it's for?

    Their proprietary EPG.
Without card on their embedded card paired CAM you have no EPG.

They will eventually be transmitting Pay TV in Conax DVB-S2 MPEG4 SD if they ever manage to launch or sign up a pay TV provider.

They say the Set-box Manufacturer will supply box and card to the Shops.

If the Manufacturer is supplying cards with set-box to the shop instead of RD posting them, then RD can forget about offering any Pay or FTV channel that needs to be Geographically limited. RD appear to have suggested this is the case.

Maybe if you get Sky Sport they have to post you a new card?

I can't see how RD can offer other than "Niche" Pay channels (some Asians?) that don't care where you are (as long as they are paid) if the cards are supplied with boxes. Sky Sport has too much content that is bought by other pay TV operators in other countries.

Without mainstream Pay TV on a la Carte basis and Pay as you Go (that makes a profit) they can't compete with Sky or Virgin, BT or Top Up TV or Survive. A second niche proprietary FTA that needs a card on only their own box is doomed.

Apparently a 50% more to twice the normal price vs generic FTA, no EPG if they go belly up.
