A 22-250 can be got for shooting vermin. But it depends on the super in your area. Some will some wont give a licence for it. Luck of the draw.

The best thing to do is just go ask your local fao what the story is. He/She will put you straight on what his chances are.

I had one licensed for that very reason.

Tell him to go for it.

a mate of mine picked up his a few weeks ago for vermin no problem with the super at all. He did clear it with them first tho but costs nothing to apply!

Now thats the million dollar question . Your mate is better of organising a meeting FAO .And see what the are happy with allowing as a larger varmint calibre .

I know a couple of lads with .243's licensed for vermin control without the deer license or range membership. It depends on your super really but I think you'd have more of a chance with the 22.250.

got a 243 for vermin, no questions asked. I later decided to get the stalking permit anyway

Very expensive as a fox round, and very limited as a deer round.

If I were you I'd go .243 as you can shoot from 58 grain Hornady up to 110grain ammo from Foxes to Deer

If you want a Solo Fox gun, stick with your .223

I have to agree with tac , why do you want to change your .223 . If i was you and wanted to step up a calibre i would be going for a .243 . If it was possible .

well i was giving 27euro for hornady ballistics 223 so i can see how it would be expensive, i wouldnt get 243 for foxs, if i could i would.

Have my 250 for vermin control and had a 40xb in 243 for same before. Both are flat shooting and extremely devastating on foxes, it's just personal choice which one you like. Price in ammo is little between them

Very expensive as a fox round,

bout €30 for a box of vmax goin by duffy's prices, not that bad considering your only gonna be shooting vermin, I've seen .223 vmax's for €28 euro a box and your getting a lot more with a .22-250. Classic caliber imo(.308 bolt face too, allows you to keep your options open)

Very expensive as a fox round,

I seen Federal 55gr power shok selling at €23 a box and it could be got for cheaper buying in bulk.;) .243 80gr power shok was selling for €27 a box.

definately, if you can licence one for vermin, its a big enough if to licence a .22-250 for vermin.

When i went for my licence for the .220 swift the garda took a form out and it was the last caliber on the page, he asked what do i want it for? I said foxs and he said good enough, He gave the go ahead on it and had licence in 3 weeks but anyways the swift was the last caliber on the sheet and 22-250 wasnt on it, I know a guy who applied and he got his no questions asked.. Its up to the garda. I think your right to buy a 22-250 its a good flat round. The reason why i never looked into one at the time i thought you needed a deer licence as there was a few dummy's blowing nonsense in my ear lol

    Federal
    €14 for .223.

    Compare like with like.

They are a lovely Calibre if reloading was available.
First .22-250 I fired was a long time ago and was serious acvurate.

Hard to beat .223 bang for buck.

    If I got a .22-250 cheap I'd rebarrel 6XC or .243.

The 87gr v max loaded in a 6xc would be a serious foxing round. High bc and flat shooting. Enjoy shooting the 250 though it's a great round to shoot. I pick that when goin out foxing over my 223 nearly everytime. I'm not saying the 223 isn't as good as the 250, it's still a great round, affordable to shoot and moderates well, it's just personal choice. A 55gr blitzking at 3,800fps from the 250 makes some mess of charlie

I use 64 grain Fed soft point in my 223 on foxy and i can guarantee he doesn't like it one little bit.

Cant see why anyone would want to use a deer rifle on foxes.

    Just my opinion.

    Federal
    €14 for .223.

    Compare like with like.

If you want to compare like for like then compare hornady to federal premium ammo and not american eagle which is the equivalent to wolf centrefire ammo, both of which are DIRT

Seems like since you got a rebarrel with a proper chamber (not a slack remmy chamber) and you can no longer use wolf you keep insisting that american eagles are the same as federal premium ammo:rolleyes:

Federal caters for all users/budgets hence why they make american eagle but it is far from good let alone premium

Not every one can afford 2 rifles and .243 and the likes are a good gun for both?
