Help with an easy-going routine!

    Hey guys i'm looking for a little help here for a work-out programme. The care-taker of my college is looking for a plan and i said i'd help him out. I do split-routines myself and was going to give him something similar, higher reps, lighter weights maybe but after talking to him today he's not looking to do a whole lot of lifting.. His main goal is to get fit.

    He's about mid to late 40's, cycles alot. I think he cycles about 3 - 4 times a week, he seems pretty keen. He looks in good shape for his age. He was looking to hit the gym twice a week for an hour max each time. With more focus on upper body as the cycling is doing a lot for his legs..

    So with that in mind would 2x one hour full body workouts do? Was thinking put him on the machines instead of free weights as he's new to all this.. Maybe start him off on a circuit of the machines?

    Any suggestions please reply!! i've never had to do a programme for anyone and i'm a bit stuck..

    in my opinion 2 1hr sessions a week is plenty. would be more beneficial to do free weights with someone qualified starting out but i realise this is impractical in most cases so i would as you said start him out on a machine circuit just 1 machine per bodypart 3 sets 8-12 reps. aim for compound exercises(that involve more than one muscle) chest press,shoulder press,lap pulldown or row leg press etc hope this helps
