Pretty certain the head gasket is gone in my 2003 1.2 polo

Any one got any idea on a rough price I should expect to pay, just so I don't get ripped off?!

DEpends on the root cause and if any damage has been done, ballpark 400 to close to A grand if the head is tossed.

Whats the issue with the car and what make you think the gasket is gone?

slight black tinge to the coolant, zero power, and it cuts out 60% of the time when you go into neutral. oh and it smells of petrol, that sort of smell you normally get from really really old cars...

Apart perhaps from the coolant, none of those things say head gasket to me..

head gasket gone means lose in compression which results in a severe lack of power....

If a head gasket was blown badly enough lower compression to the stage where it effected the power like you describe, it would be boiling like a kettle every time you start it and would have alot more then a 'slight black tinge' to the coolant:eek:
