Hi All, I have a petrol Mercedes E200, year 2000. What mpg would you expect from it? I am thinking of getting a 2.2 Hyundai Santa Fe diesel as replacement. Should it be more fuel efficient as they reckon that gets on average 35 mpg. any feedback would be helpful

    I have a 96 E230 petrol automatic and I get about 35mpg over a tank on it.

Can't imagine your Santa Fe would be a whole lot better than your e200, maybe if you are doing a lot of town driving. If your trying to get a economical car I'd head for a 250D merc or if you can afford it a e270 cdi - they get you 55mpg even with a heavy foot. Something more than a 35mpg car at any rate. I consider 35mpg average to be bad.

Upgrading to a diesel will probably depend on your annual mileage. And although I haven't heard anything bad about the 2.2 in the Santa Fe. My old man had a couple of them on his fleet at work and mpg overall was usually around 30-35mpg. These were commercials though.

You could always just upgrade to a more fuel efficient petrol car.
