Was in Doheny and Nesbitts tonight to enjoy some of the post-Ireland match celebrations. Bunch of suits in there dominating the place - presumably they watched it in the Dail bar.

One in particular was totally obnoxious - shouting at the top of his voice, almost Pavarotti style. Other customers clearly not impressed, barstaff even less so. Eventually he stumbled back into a woman on a stool hurting her back at which point she told him to cop himself on.

I assumed he was a councillor up from the country for the day - and willing to tolerate him on that basis. Then somebody introduced him to someone else - he was Barry Cowen, Brian's brother. This was the night after RTE did the second programme on Brian Cowen including the "was he hoarse or was he hungover" issue.

Seemed very bad timing of his brother to make a complete prat of himself the very next night in Doheny's. Short of sticking my phone in his face and getting proof, I have none, but there were many witnesses and I feel like sending this report to a journalist, except I don't know any.

I didn't vote for him but he obviously got in anyway. I just haven't seen an elected politician behave so obnoxiously in a public place before. I just got home and this still bothers me. And don't tell me that's the way it is, because that's not supposed to be the way it is anymore.

Why didn't you stick the phone in his face? If you are a taxpayer, then you paying his wages. If a public representative is/has behaved like a loutish thug, then you are entitled to expose such behaviour.

Well politicians are entitled to thier leisure time as well, so I wouldnt be too inclined to judge him for that. And an irish man loudly celebrating qualification for the Euro finals is hardly unusual ! Howver i would be inclined to judge him for being an FF TD, particaularily belonging to that particular FF clan.

Sorry Columbo, I didn't even know who he was for at least half an hour - I just thought he was behaving like a prat.

For the most part he was just shouting and roaring so probably nothing would have shown up.

He was shouting at the top of his voice for a long period of time, in a relatively small space, clearly annoying the ordinary punters. If he had been dressed in an Irish jersey, he would have still been too loud, but what he was shouting had nothing to do with Ireland. As someone dressed in a suit and tie, who turned out to be a TD, he was just making a complete fool of himself.
