Just curious, any idea why a dealer would sell trade only? Car has some faults and cannot be legally sold to public ("1250 EURO AS IT IS")? It was a trade-in and doesn't want aftersales hassle of a brand they don't franchise?
Would think the market there is very limited.

The cost of preparing the car exceeds the profit available for a franchises dealer.
The trade bit means the car can be sold not subject to the sale of goods act nor the manufacturers/dealers approved used car program

Treat as a private sale really.

Well is it a case of that there is something wrong with the car it will cost to much to fix so they want to get rid of it but as a registered car sales company they by law I would imagine have to tell you, or is it a case that it is in need of a good service which they do not want to do. I notice the nct is up in about 4 months. What you think?

Ask the seller what's wrong with it.

Id say steer clear as it more than likely needs a good few jobs doing

I would say basically selling "as is" with no warranty.

Not necessary to be concerned. It's almost 12 years old and, as other posters have said, there isn't enough profit margin in such a car to justify giving a guarantee.

For €1,250 it's worth a punt, but not if you are unsure or not if you are not in a position to fix anything that may go wrong with it.

TBH, expecting a warranty on such a cheap car is a bit much.

And, OT, the salesman listed is one of the best hurlers in the country. A class act.

Ye so basically they got it on trade they have done no work on it and they want rid of it. The car could be perfect just depends on how well the last owner looked after it.

    You got it!

Garages usually cost a warranty at something in the region of €400 (€400 of the car's selling price is being hedged against possible warranty claims in the future).

A car of this age/value cannot bear the inclusion of such a charge.

He has a VAG franchise, a condition of which is that every car he sells to Joe Public has to have a warranty for which he has to lodge money with the distributor, this is to protect the punter in case the dealer goes bust. He is also required to sell any secondhand car in a minimum state of road-worthiness which means a full valet, new tyres if necessary and a full service.

He has obviously done the numbers and concluded that he cannot make money on such a deal, hence he is selling it 'trade only'.

Now if was an indie of course he would offer it for sale with the usual claims - 'will sail through the NCT', PMO, FSH, one careful owner etc. etc., all of which would be complete BS.

would think this car could be bought for a good bit less then the asking as he probably is mad to get rid

car more then likely has a few problems so wouldn't be looking at it op if your not willing to spend a bit of time and money to fix whatever might go wrong with it

That dealer has fields full of used cars sitting there for ages with moss growing around them. One more especially a 12 year old one would not bother him that much I would think.

BTW, I don't think an almost 12 year old Mazda 3 being sold with no warranty for €1250 is in any way cheap.

The price isn't great in my opinion.
