12k for What Diesel?

    Hi

Ive been considering changing my car for the past few weeks and have been looking at a number of different cars....diesel cars as I do about 450 miles per week.

I want a relatively new car so I had been looking at 08 cars to avail of the cheaper tax but Ive noticed that 08+ cars have a hefty price tag on them.

Would I be better going for 07 car instead? Would the extra cost of the tax be cancelled by the cheaper price of the car??

I have 12K cash to spend so Id like to hear/see your opinions on what car I should buy.

Also, would I be better off waiting till the new year?

    Thanks all

Should be able to buy something like this:

    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201127203271601

Good on fuel, no DPF to worry about and 2010 models are well equipped.

Would the 90hp be "big" enough? Is there a 110hp version?

IMO 90hp is fine in a focus. The old 1.4 petrols only had 75 or 80hp and the diesel has alot more torque to will pull fine.

not sure what size car you're looking at but for 12000 you could get a 08 avensis d4d with a decent spec like the the TR or T spirit model. I have an 06 one and i find theyre very reliable, comfortable, cheap to run, well built and i think they look decent in a nice colour too!..
alternatively mayb an 08 Octavia or Jetta should be got relatively easy for 12000 just watch for electrical gremlins!

    This should fit the bill,

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Hyundai/i30/1.6-Dies/201044200115879/advert?channel=CARS

Plenty of 5 year warranty left, low tax. Seems good to me!

It is over budget but gives you an idea of what you could get for your budget

90bhp is fine, otherwise you can always get it remapped to about 120bhp and increased torque for a few hundred euro.
