Check out the connemara mtb website:

Deroura is about 40 km outside of Galway toward Clifden and is a nice 16 km loop but the website has details on this track and many more.

Bus services in that direction are few and far between. The drivers are decent enough and would probably allow you bring a bike. The 419 service (http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1277914360-419.pdf) runs between Galway and Clifden and would get you to Oughterard at least or possibly slightly closer to Derroura. There's no service late in the evening though. Might also be worth trying citylink who have a Clifden service (http://www.citylink.ie/index.php/routes-a-timetables/timetables/65) but may be less flexible about a bike and pick-up/drop off locations. Best bet would be to make friends with someone in the Connemara MTB club and see if a lift is on offer (a colleague is involved with them so I can put you in touch). As suggested, give Gary a call in Moycullen Bike Works. He's insanely MTBing obsessed and helpful in equal levels :)
