problem setting up account for android market on new tablet

    Guys,

    I got my hands on a new android tablet (mpman from FNAC), and I downloaded the full marketplace and installed it (without needing to root it) however I cannot access the market without an account, so it directs me to set one up....but when I enter my gmail details I get a setup could not finish - unable to open connection to server message.

    I have no idea why, when I set up my mail account it took my gmail details and downloaded my mail straight away.

    I'm new to android and am seriously scratching my head here...any ideas.
