3Gs - How to create a solid black background?

If I choose Settings/Wallpaper, I see only a selection of horrible, textured backgrounds. How do I set the app screen (not the startup screen, which I have a photo on) to a solid black background? This phone is running 0S 5.1, for what it's worth. Thanks. D.

Take a picture while covering the camera lens.
Set as wallpaper.
