Hi guys hope it's ok to ask a few questions

My girlfriend and I and planning out first ski/snowboarding trip ( snowboarding;) )
in Feb anyway, were looking at soll, seems a good place for beginners, hich we both are altho she used to skateboard, and were thinking of booking with directski, looks ah good package overall, but i read somewhere on Boards that your better off to rent gear and get lessons yourself, is that rite am i better off??

I have been to Soll twice with Direct Ski. They have a few shops you can rent your stuff from and one of them (Stoll is the name, the one I used) was terrible. Really old gear and the guys fitting the boots etc hadn't a clue what they were doing. The 2nd year I foung this place http://www.sport-edinger.at/ and rented the stuff from them. I still did the lessons through direct ski as they were the same price.

The only think about sport edinger is that it is a bit further up the hill from where the ski school meets on the first morning and if you have never skied/boarded before you won't be able to ski down to the meeting point. It will be a bit extra time on the first morning.

It really depends on if you want the hassle of going out of your way on the first morning.

I think your better off going through directski for your lessons and gear as if anythin goes wrong u can go through your travel agent, im also very lazy so that might be another reason!!

I probably will book everything through the travel agent altho we're now thinking of using Top Flight, personally i'd probably trust them more,

I've used Direct Ski for the past 3 years and have never had a problem with them at all. Haven't used any of the others so cannot comment. Go with whoever gives you the best deal at the end of the day.

I think it's very convenient to use a tour operators "beginner ski package" the first time you go. You won't have to worry about anything and you'll have enough stress simply moving around carrying your gear, wondering about lockers, trying to find the rental shop, possibly not understanding the language, trying to learn how to not fall over etc. Next time you go you'll be more comfortable about all of that and can shop around in advance.

    Topflight = DirectSKi

Topflight is owned by TOny Collins

Direct ski is owned by his two sons and sell the exact same holidays as topflight using the same resort reps and suppliers!!!

    So no Difference

would look elsewhere in the skiwelt like westendorf of Flachau, Personally not a fan of Soll but each to their own.

You will get your ski rental about 10% cheaper booking direct and it is normally easy enough. Especially in Austria just look up the local tourist webstie and search for ski rental

I've passed this info on to a few people about Soll (www.soell.at). Having been there about 5 times, I think its a great spot. We always book everything seperate and for a lot cheaper than it works out going thru an operator.

You can fly into Salzburg (1hour from Soll, fly with Ryanair) or Munich (1.5hours from Soll, fly with Aer Lingus).

    Costs are as follows:
    Flight (Salzburg): Approx €83 return
    Transfer: Approx €30 each way
Accom: €36pppn B&B in the Mirabell (http://www.wilderkaiser.info/en/vermieter/pension-mirabell.html) Its basic but clean and is right in the centre of town. I've stayed there the last 5 years.
Lift Pass: €199.50 (http://www.wilderkaiser.info/asp_service/upload/content/SkiWelt-Individualtarife-Winter-2011_12_EN.pdf) Covers a huge area and you may be able to get a 10% discount depending on where you stay.
Ski/Boot Hire: €72.50 (SKI, BOARDS & BOOTS BY SKICENTER STOLL) You may bet cheaper elsewhere.
Insurance: Approx €15 (JustCover.ie Travel Insurance)

You can keep an eye on conditions over the winter using the livecam (http://www.wilderkaiser.info/en/livecam.html)

Nightlife is pretty good and eating out pretty cheap. Theres a great Irish guy working in the resort called Lenny (everyone knows Lenny)... ask for him and he'll be able to organise anything you want or need.

Now thats all your homework done for you!
