A few questions- What is the best nutritious breakfast to eat?
Is it better to snack in between the three main meals?
If so, which are the best snacks?
Is it true that we dont need food after 7pm, and if you dont eat after then does it slow down your metabolism?
    What foods increase your metabolism?
I am eating alot of foods that are wrong for me, including bread, yet i am still tired, would something like berocca be bad for somone on a diet?
Does A low carb diet slow down your metabolism?

Thank you so much, id appreciate any help :)

    Eggs
Shouldn't need to snack if your eating properly.
If your hungry after 7pm then eat.
Stop eating foods that are wrong for you.
Don't worry about metabolism just concentrate on eating healthy.

I gave up bread and have started having porridge every morning. It will fill you up and you shouldn't want to eat until lunch time.
You can add nuts , seeds and fruit to vary it each day. Honey and cinnamon is really nice too :)

Breakfast - eggs. Try lots of different veg to make an omellete, or poached eggs with salmon/ ham. If you get sick of eggs have fruit and natural full-fat yogurt - I sometimes add in a handful of raw oats and it's great.

Lunch - Meat/ fish/ cheese with salad/ raw vegetables. Add olive oil, nuts, seeds as you want.

Dinner - Meat/ fish with vegetables. No harm in spuds but small portion only. Green vegetables are your best friends! Eat lots of them.

If you're hungry, have some nuts or seeds but always weigh them if you're unsure of the calorie content. Nuts pack a serious amount of calories so just be aware of that. I find a slice or two of cheese a good snack as well, or a piece of fruit.

Stop worrying about slowing down your metabolism. Starvation mode is one of the big myths of nutrition. You have to undereat by a large amount for a very long time for this to be any sort of issue. Similarly, eating lots of snacks doesn't speed up your metabolism, it just gets you into the habit of eating when you are not hungry.

Eat when you are hungry, stop eating when you are not hungry.

While I agree that white bread is not the best thing, where is the evidence that it causes 'bloating'? I just think many dietry facts we take for granted should be examined for proper scientific evidence..

Anyway, cutting alcohol is a very good idea if you want to lose weight, its full of calories and will make you crave things like chips (or at least it does for me anyway!).
And I'd be careful about having a pasta salad, not because ' omg carbs r evil!1' but because pasta is very high in calories, so I'd watch your portion sizes.

    Good luck:)

thanks for that, my thinking was cause it's wholewheat pasta that it would be better than bread...

my idea on the bread was that it would lower my carbs and that would be good for reducing my belly?

any suggestions what would be good for reducing water rention / gas? (this dress is like a bandage style dress, so VERY fitted!)

There may not be a study that shows a connection between bloating and wheat, but there's an awful lot of annecdotalic evidence. I've lots count of how many people (esp women) have said they look as if they dropped half a stone within a week of cutting out wheat.

But the deal is, it's all wheat, including brown bread and pasta. Replace the bread in your lunchtime sandwich with the same filling but eaten with a big green salad, and the pasta in your dinner with a huge pile of green veg, and you save 500 cals a week without reducing the amount you eat.

Ok this is shocking news, wholewheat pasta is as bad as bread? Feck it anyways, shall have to go to shop this evening and stock up on salady type stuff.

Have been having a slice of lemon in warm water first thing in the morning as well to help kick start digestion.

    Brisk walking or running.

Squats. Barbell squats hit the tummy area as well as the bum, thighs and most of your body.

You can't spot reduce. Big compound exercises will give the best results overall.

how do i do a squat? is that the one that looks like you're sitting on a chair with out the chair? or is it where you step forward bend that knee, and nearly touch the back leg off the floor? and barbells - i.e just hold weights at same time??

Yes, a beginner squat is often done as standing in front of a chair, and bending knees and hips (keeping head up and back flat) until your bum touches the seat, then standing up again. As you get better, you can go deeper, and add weights. If you are on your own, hold a weight in each hand. If you are in gym, put a barbell, even a light one, across your shoulders (not your neck) and do the same exercise.

A lunge is the one where you step forward and bend your knees. Like geneflecting at mass. It's a good exercise too.

And i wonder why diets dont work for me, this is day 3 and i still havent done any really exercise. but doing well so far with food...

Weight loss is 90% diet. Exercise is what makes you look good naked. But if you have a choice of one to get right, fix the diet.

Well boring old Porridge again for breakfast here's hoping. have started drinking nettle & fennel tea also, so hopefully that will help

I offered up breads and have commenced having porridge every day. It will complete you up and you shouldn't want to eat until the afternoon.

To Mac, dont give up hope, this is something that is not going to happen overnight. In the two weeks since I have originally posted, i have cleaned up my diet totally- eating three square meals. Breakfast- i usually have porridge plain, with cinnaomon or honey or with red berries frozen mixture (lidl/aldi), and some tea. it fills me right up and at lunch i will have some fruit, soup from a carton (i know i should start making it myself tbh) dinner consists of as much veg as poss chicken/ a chop/ mince/beef stew and one large potatoe or two small ones. I have started going for a walk maybe 3/4 evenings a week for about 45mins and have started a pilates class once a week. In the evenings I will have more fruit, veg sticks, eggs (scrambed or whole) with decaff tea. i really feel all my muscles have started to tighten, i have dropped 4 lbs, and more importantly i have a more positive outlook on myself, my diet and my appearance.. i no longer crave all the biscuits and choccy bars because i am off the sugar rollarcoaster i was on before. Keep up your spirits and know that you are on the right track, your body will thank you for it and show it :)

ps. for sweet treats i have yogurts, frozen or not, and grapes, raisins.

Shimmery, well done, you are doing great. i must try the frozen fruits in porridge, i have them in the freezer and never thought of it!

my one let down is exercise, am in college at the moment in the evenings so havent found time to get out for a walk, even if i did though can't see me going 4 times a week tbh!

weekend went ok, no major splurges, went out for dinner saturday night and went to a thai resturant, which was great as I managed to pick (reasonably) heathly options..

Instead of porridge, have you tried oats, yoghurt and fruit. Much tastier!

i havent, when you say oats, do you mean just like porridge oats or something different??

I've always been a fan of the three regular meals with small meals or big snacks in between. I can't eat enough in one sitting to stay full for 4 hours. So I usually eat a meal replacement bar for breakfast, a snack mid morning, a solid lunch, a mid-afternoon snack, dinner, and something at bedtime. For me the bedtime snack to help me sleep through the night otherwise I wake up when my blood sugar crashes. You ultimately have to find what works for you.
