    Hi,
I'm trying to record onto CD here and I can't hear the recording back. Have been through the settings etc. Microphone is working, I can hear myself recording, i save the file and then try to playback but NOTHING! I even put the setting for playback to max. This is driving me nuts as I need to do something for work so please help. Have tried the "help" on Windows but nadda.

Would it not be easier to RIP the CD using CDex to MP3 format? To get sound recorder working over Stereo Mix you need to open recording devices (right click on volume icon in windows taskbar near clock), right click on the blank area and "Show disabled Devices". Right click on Stereo Mix (which is disabled) and enable. Thats all there is too it!

Hmm, sorry mis-understood your question. When you play back on sound recorder you can hear your voice but when you export it you can't? Is that it? What format is it saving as?

Install Audacity, configure to record from mic, hit the Record button, record your audio, then save the resulting wave as a .wav / .mp3 file, then burn that file as audio to a CD :)

sorry can't make head nor tail of audacity.

re. sound recorder, now that I have eliminated the feedback problem, I still can't work it. I can record my voice but can't hear anything on playback, even when I turn the sound level of speakers to the max. I can hear my voice through the headphones but now when I play back the file on the laptop. I need to record some stuff from my voice onto CD for work. Any help welcome. I have noticed that the default file that I am saving onto isa windows media audio (wma) file.
