hi there, living in carrick on suir co. tipperary just wondering if anybody would be able to help. I am looking for a car for a couple of weeks to get me back on my feet, the problem is i only have 200/300 max to spend which i am well aware is very little to spend. I am depending on boyfriends brother to bring me to look at cars so waterford cork or tipperary are the only areas i can travel. Can anybody help ive looked on donedeal.ie carzone.ie cbg.ie carsireland.ie and adverts.ie and havent seen anything just need something driveable 1.6 ltr or less ?

200-300 wouldn't even pay for the tax of a 1.6L, never mind buying one, insurance, NCT and any repair work that needs to be done.

Yeah OP you haven't a hope on that budget. A tank of petrol would cost you at least 60 quid. Which is a fifth of your max budget!

Yeah bear in mind tax insurance fuel. Sorry but realistically €300 isn't going to get much that won't need a whole pile of work doing to it.

That being said I think there was a poster here who bought a 13 year old Polo for about 400 quid so you might find something. :)

    I did find this though

Tax and NCT for 400quid. Perfect.

Could well get sometimg for 300 that would be roadworthy, on mobile with fading battery so can't do any searching though.

In fairness, sometimes you can be lucky. I came across a 1998 7-seater for €400! That was a year ago and I haven't had a day's trouble. She starts every time and there's not a bent panel on it. The guy lost his licence for drink driving and just wanted rid. His bad luck was my good luck. :) Like I said, you can be lucky.

Ha, snap! was just about to say I picked up a 1.6 Mk1 Mondeo for well under that budget last winter. Lasted me nearly 6 months, drove it into the scrappies and got over half my money back. Ka-ching! Mk2 Mondeo would be better again, the lights on the Mk1s were terrrible.

Thing with car hire is that after the three weeks you're left with nothing where if you buy something for 300 quid at least at the end you should be able to get back what you paid or more.

Yeah, but no tax, no insurance, no breakdown worries. If it's only for a short period you need the car, I think it's the way to go (unless you know someone who'll lend you their car). Avoid the extra insurance option.

I think you misunderstood...money pitt = a car that eats money for repairs. That 300 car could cost you twice that or more.

Renting sounds like a plan and a half. If that price includes insurance. Then you have a taxed, tested, insured and NCT'd car for two weeks for 250.

The whole renting idea is purely based on you being able to get something after the two weeks though. Otherwise i'd wait until you get some cash if that's possible.

With a rental car all you have to worry about is pay for fuel...

    Well done Debbie!

Incredible you can get a car with test and tax for €200

5 years ago a car with no defects with test and tax cost at least a grand...
