For proper allergy tests, you have to go to your doctor and get referred. All those tests which involve hair samples or holding little bottles in your hand are a waste of money.

In the mean time, try keeping a food diary. Record what you eat, and any reactions. Sometimes you can pin down problem foods yourself.

If you know there is a problem and need to find it, try an exclusion diet. For a week or two, eat only foods like lamb, pears, rice, white fish, olive oil, fish, turkey, vegetables etc. Cut out dairy, other meats, grains, tea, coffee, soy, seeded fruits, anything with preservations, colours, sweeteners etc.

After a week, bring back a food that you think may be causing a problem. Watch for reactions. If there is none, then bring back another food. If there is a reaction, remove it, wait till the problem goes away, and try it again. If there's still a problem, you've got your culprit.

    This answer is rubbish.

You can call the Charlemont clinic and do an allergy test for €190.

Had my own done today after my ent consultant suggesting that the test was needed. I didn't need a referal at all.

Called them last week went in today and had results instantly which show I have allergies to dust mites, grass and tree pollen.

Didn't need food test done but that cost €190.

All in all an excellent service and it seems the issues I have been having will now be thankfully resolved.

It's a painless skin test and personally after having it done I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone with an allergy.
