    Hi there,

I am a self-employed IT Technician, and among repairing computers, laptops etc.. I also repair games consoles and I was wondering if I wanted to offer a customer cash to trade in their console for parts could I put this down as an expense since the parts will go toward repairing other customer's consoles? Would I just issue the customer an invoice as normal?

    Thanks in advance, Ryan

You wouldn't be giving them an invoice as you would be purchasing off of them. Y
ou should give them a receipt for cash paid over. Theoretically they could give you an invoice, but I imagine this is unlikely to happen. Ultimately these will form part of your purchases so you will need record as such.
