Has anyone come across and special apparel, jewelry that gives them immense powers??

I remember in morrowind finding the boots of blinding speed (crazy brilliance)

More importantly.. If you did find these special items.. where did you find them????

Got a couple of amulets and some armour and a nice soul stealing axe but they wouldn't be in the immense section just yet, more useful.
My fav from Oblivion was the Umbra sword for one of the gods, just never gave it back as an offering as was far too superb. Hope there's something like that for super easy soul gem refills. But looking forward to finding that WMD hidden away somewhere so i can show those level 18 trolls who's boss!!!

    Do the Daedric artifacts count?

Theres a mask you can find that gives you 20% to Lockpick/Alchemy/Archery.

It's part of a quest that you get of a courrier. In the mountains NE of Dragonsreach.

There are similar masks, available through different means in the game. I recently picked up a heavy armour mask with gave 20% to some spells (forget which, I ain't no magey type)

I think they may be the masks that you need for a quest in the Labyrinth. You've got to submit 12 masks for 1 mask or something along those lines. I randomly stumbled across it last night. Not sure of the stats for that 1 mask once you give up the other 12. Tough to locate all 12 apparently..

    Finding a weapon with Banish!

Disenchanted it and now enchanting every weapon I'm selling with it to increase the value.

Best I've gotten so far is Robes of Destruction... which I think are pretty kick ass :)

Quest to find the three pieces is a bit of work though.

Quest to find the three pieces is a bit of work though.

I did that backwards seemingly, ended out needing the final piece from Saarthal rather than beginning there. So was easish for me.

    Cool object tho.

I did Saarthal last too, needed to join the mages guild to get access.
The bosses are tough...especially at lower levels, think I found this quest at lvl 7 or 8....was impossible...had to wait till 16 to do it.

Not had the necklace off since I got it :D

I found one of those dragon priest masks. +100% regeneration of magic. Pretty darn good if you ask me.

Some lad called Morokei had one, lost it now due to my failed prison Break :(

Got the skeleton key which is cool but basicially cheating, never breaks and opens every lock( other than one "key required".

Had the Nightingale Armour which was fairly cool looking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,230 ✭✭✭Wetbench4

i got some cool staffs. The Wabbajack which causes random effects like, turn into a goat or instant death etc, and a rose staff that conjurs a dremora lord to fight for you. I have a waterbreathing dragonscale helmet also.
I got the wabbajack from a sheogorath quest and can't remember where i got the rose.

The Sanguine Rose is from "A Night to Remember". A very memorable quest. Surprised you forgot it although it is possible to avoid the best bit,
getting the ring back from the hag you marrried (which can be avoided with speech in whiterun),
    which is a pity.

    Skeleton Key -
I didn't even get to open 1 lock with it, gave it back to Nocturnal at the end of the quest, but I was expecting it back as the quest reward........gutted....

Azuras Star (black) -gotta love infinte souls

The Mace of Malog Ball or whoever he was was very good..

    Oh oh...getting your spectral comapanion
    Lucien lachance
, hahaha, he makes me laugh all the time with his commentaries on the mission

    Go rob it back !
It's an unbreakable lockpick basically :D

And by not completing the quest you miss out on a special spell that you can use once a day, I think mine is "Turn invisible for 120 secs"

    :(
Yeah I didn't realise that at the time...my only regret in the game, as it was my favourite item in Oblivion, and I was looking forward the whole game to getting it......hmmm...the Thieves guild tricked me into giving it back, I may have to exact revenge on them all later !!

If I use a console command to spawn it is it considered cheating :P ?....i basically had it but was tricked....

Oh, and as for Azuras star, basically depending on which one you got , it will capture souls from creatures or humans, infinitely.
So say you have a Sword of Fire - and it has run out, you need to recharge it using a soul gem , or Azuras star.
You need to cast a soul trap spell on the enemy before you kill them, to trap the soul (or else use a weapon with the enchant)
You then select the weapon in your inventory (Sword of Fire) and press T to charge and it's back to full :):D ...and your Azuras star is still there

Ya i remember that hangover quest, great quest, but i missed the bit you mentioned in the spoiler... I'd forgotten thats where you get the rose but i've gotten so many things from quests, its hard to remember which from where.

I just got the perk that gives you 15x damage with a dagger while sneaking. On the lookout for a nice dagger now, because i used to just sell them on straight away.

Slightly off topic but since the update, the dragons aren't attacking me. I've met 3 or 4 so far and they all just circle high above. I hope its not broke.

Somehow have 2 wabbajacks, got one early in the game sold it and then bought it back cos of this thread. Got another one from Palagius/Mad hatter quest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

not to bothered by the skeleton key. in Oblivion it was downright necessary, especially when played on PC, the lock picking minigame was dire.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭longhalloween

I found a ring of extreme smithing.

Gives a 22% bonus to all smithing and upgrading. I got 100 smithing too, so both combined, plus a potion of smithing (30% bonus to all upgrades for 30 seconds) means that my defence in light dragon armour is somewhere near 350 now (without helmet or shield)

I liked the fireball staff you get from the mage SW of saarthal , 40 pts damage in a 5m radius i think , like a grenade launcher really

You mean Azura's Star? Nope. The only real drawback is it takes precedence over your other stones, so the first Petty soul you try to trap will go into Azura's Star before a petty soul gem, instead of being kicked to the bottom of the precedent, which would mean it only traps a soul when you fill your other gems. So in that regard, it's kind of annoying, especially when you lose the opportunity to capture a grand soul.

That's why you are better off going for the Black Star rather than Azura's Star. All humanoids are considered 'Grand' souls, so it taking priority doesn't matter.

when you obtained the star before it was fixed you were given the option to return it to Azuras follower to fix it or the guy in whiterun who could also fix it. its pretty sweet if you can actually capture a soul in it.

Got the Blade of Woe by completing the Dark Brotherhood quest. I would venture that its the best weapon of the game - its got the fastest attack speed (being a dagger), gets all the single handed perk bonuses and does the same or more base damage than most swords in the game. (Context: base stat Blades sword does 22 damage - Blade of Woe does 24 base damage at my current level). Pair it with a mix of ancient assassin armor and Nightingale armor, plus the sneak and single handed weapons perks and its unstoppable. With the sneak dagger perk you do 15x damage for sneak attacks with a dagger and with ancient assassins greaves there's a double damage bonus, giving a total 30x damage multiplier. I've taken out a Dragon Priest with one hit using that combo.

Aside from that, finding an Elven bow at level 3 was a god send. Didn't even have to bother looking at any other bows until level 19 when I accidentally lost it in a confrontation with a Daugr mage that had the disarm shout. The Ancient Supple Nord bow made up for its loss though.

Then there's the scimitar. If you come across any Redguards, hope like hell they have a scimitar. With smithing, they become insanely powerful. Base stat 22 (at my level) gets bumped up to 34 with level 40+ smithing. I found one early on (around level 9, I think) and I haven't come across any non enchanted sword that beats its base damage.

For anyone that uses light armor - the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests are a must. Through that you get access some of the best light armor in the game. Glass armor is better, but coming across it at anything less than level 20 is extremely rare.

Bound weapons, with the perk that increases their damage, are as powerful as (un-improved) Daedric weapons. This means that relatively early in the game if you focus on them you can get quite powerful melee weapons (Bound Bows require quite a lot of Conjuration before the spell tome is unlocked, I forget how much). The Bound Sword with the perk is 24 damage if I recall correctly. With the second perk they're an easy way of gathering souls too.

A bit OP before you get either your smithing or enchanting high enough to turn an ordinary weapon into something better than 24 damage + automatic soul trap.

Yeah its not a mission but someone commented on mine as i was wearing it, had no idea where i had to bring them :D Cheers for that have 7 now.

No idea where the last one is and dont want to use the web, tempted. Think 4 were in places my mysterious mate sent me (btw anyone know if you get to kill that cnut?) 2 were in places greybeards sent me and other 1 was a dragon quest. have completed the dragon line so hoping greybeard finds a new word for me soon.

Mehrune's Razor is probably one of the better 1H weapons in the game. Chance to Insta skill and has unlimited charges. Gets pretty decent damage if you put alot of perks into the One-Handed skill and if you have sneak and the damage multiplier perks it becomes a very dangerous weapon indeed

There's also the Forsaken Samurai Sword, cant remember the exact details to get it but apparently it's Two-Handed and if you kill your 'friends' (aka people you've done favours for in the game) the sword gets progressively stronger. All I do know is that it's
    somewhere in the Dragonreach Castle

How do you get Mehrune's Razor?

As for that forsaken sword (its actually just called Ebony Blade, even though it looks like a large Katana) it also allows you to attack NPCs and they do not consider it assault, making it a brilliant assassins weapon (witnesses will still consider it assault). Although, even though its two handed, it benefits from only the one handed perk tree and is only held in one hand by your character. You get it from one of the Daedric princes, IIRC.

    Go to
dawnstar (town in centre of map on northern coast line) and go to the last house on the right hand side (as you face the sea) of the shoreline.. there is a museum there and the man who just opened it asks you to collect it for him.. the blade is broken into 3 pieces which you must go collect and then forge at a shrine..

I started the quest after I was given an invite to the museum.. went there and then I was directed to 3 different locations to collect the bits of the sword!

Went to my new Dark Brotherhood sanctuary, after having it fully kitted out.
Torture chamber has 4 live people strung up  pleading for death....I was actually sad for them and had decided to massacre my Dark Brothers for doing such a thing.

First I would put them out of their misery, as I attacked the first..they started talking..revealing the location of hidden treasure......so did the 2nd, and the 3rd...and the 4th :D

I then went off and happilly collected about 8k worth of easy gold...and thought to myself "I will leave my Brothers alive, they know what they're doing" :) ......."if more torture victims don't respawn...I will kill them all" :o:confused:

I went for Azura's Star in that situation... the upside is that you can get the priestess-type elf who gave you the mission as a follower. I sent Lydia home and got the elf to join me - she's pretty kickass.

I only did this a couple of nights ago, so I'd be ok with going back to an earlier save. Does anyone know if having the Black Star is significantly handier than having a kickass follower with you?

Just means that you can fill it with a grand soul over and over again without destroying it. I find it handy for enchanting weapons as enchanting with a Grand Soul makes the enchantment stronger.
