A couple of my favourite memories from the Nissan.

At the pre-race presentation in Trinity College, I asked Hennie Kuiper to autograph a picture of him in the rainbow jersey. He passed it around to the other riders, pointing proudly at the jersey and saying (I think as he was speaking Dutch) "look I was that good once".

I was making my way home from the stage finish when the Kwantum team car pulled up and the driver asked for directions to the airport and I found myself giving directions to Jan Raas who was a big hero of mine. He was slightly taken aback when I addressed him by name as presumably he didn't think he would be known in Dublin. There was a man who wore plain old glasses before prescription Oakleys became obligatory!

I recently xferred the '87 & 88 Nissans onto hardrive from video. You could buy both for about a fiver each from cycling weekly until recently, perhaps they still have them.

One of them went to the line in O'Connell st and theres a great slow motion shot of Kelly looking back at Bauer with an incredible look of defiance on his face. It obviously meant a lot for him to win here.

I think the Irish Amateurs rode out of their skin in the Nissans - some incredible guts.

    Thanks for that Rob.
Is there any way you or anyone could show that as a link because it always just shows up on my page as a blank screen with a wee red x in the top left corner. I do have Adobe Flash Player (the latest version) up and running but these youtube clips never appear.

Edwig van Hooydonck won the Tour of Flanders twice in his career: 1989 and ’91. Great talent. They called him “Eddie Bosberg.” as he made his successful winning attacks on that famous last climb in the race. However disappeared off the scene very shortly after these victories as he felt he couldn't compete with other riders as the now infamous doping era of the 90's took off.

Also good to see Paul McCormack in action as he had won the Ras in 1987. Great cyclist as was his brother Alan but did most of their cycling in the States

    Thanks for the memories RobFowl
