I have one of these for commuting. Most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. It has the 531ST tubing which was made slightly thicker than standard 531 to take touring weights but its still a light and strong bike.

(I have no connection to the seller)

    Looks like a 22 or 21 1/2 inch frame.
I'd say suitable for any one from 5'7 to 5'11

Hi <snip>, I'm sorry I'll have to pass on the bike. 22" is just a bit big for me. I'm 5'8 with a bit of a dodgy back so I don't want to take a chance. I see there is little room for the saddle height to go down and your 5'9. It's a shame as its exactly what I'm looking for. GLWS.

Hi Ray, let me just double check the frame size tonight, (I'm slightly under 5'9')

You are of course welcome to check bike for size etc

I may be interested - would offer 170 (subject to viewing and seeing how it fits).

Of course that is if Ray O is no longer interested...

Would it be possible to re-fit this bike with 8sp Sora brakes, cassette, and chainring - or would the frame type prevent this? Have them on my now defunt commuter and like them so just wondering!

Fat****e, if you're buying this with the intention of putting a sora groupset on it bear in mind that (provided the wheels are original), it'll have a freewheel hub for a six or seven speed freewheel and you'd have to replace that with a modern freehub to fit the the 8 speed cassette.
Road calipher brakes also won't fit but the shimano cantilever brakes specced as standard on the touristique are pretty decent by the standards of canti's.

Having said that, you should still buy the bike (and no, I have no connection to the buyer). I had the priveldge of restoring one of these last year for a mate of mind, put a 9 speed ultegra/deore groupset on it and a new rear wheel and it's one of the nicest bikes I've ever ridden.

The frame is very light by touring standards and incredibly comfortable, and a real quality machine, you won't be disappointed. I'd be making an offer on this bike myself only I already have a touring bike not to mention half a dozen other bikes.

    hi,
Interested in this bike if it is still available.
Offer 170 subject to viewing. Can travel to view Saturday or Sunday.
I need low gears so if you can count the number of teeth on the smallest gear in front and biggest at back this would be useful
    regards
    tipperary45

Planning on viewing at the weekend. Will let ye know if I don't take it for any reason.

Tony-thanks for the input on the frame and the 8sp set up, much appreciated.

    @k123456

You can only accept one offer at a time

You accepted tipperary45's conditional offer before you accepted Rhand's unconditionall one, so at this stage it is tipperary45's offer that takes precedence

    Thanks

Okay, my bad. But if I open a topic where I say I'm looking for a bike and he posts a link to this thread saying he he as a bike for sale, I'm just going to pm him for it. Didn't think it'd be that big a deal.

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,393 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

All discussion on both for sale and wanted adverts must be kept in-thread until a deal is agreed - only then can PMs be exchanged with contact details or to arrange a viewing
