getting new carpet fitted in sitting room but I was thinking of moving the rad from one wall to another a distance of about 12ft, its a wood floor under the carpet, How much should I expect to pay a plumber to do this?

Depends. Ring around, you'll be able to get free qoutes before anyone does any work.
