Honda Civics 1999 year, Irish car"....do they have catalytic converters? Reason I ask is I'm offered one for a runabout with low miles but don't want a bill for a cat as its being laying up a while...all the rest of the servicing is easy peasy.

    Thanks

Definitely has a cat. It's an NCT requirement for all post 92 cars.

Yes it has a cat. There is no reason for a cat to have been effected by not being driven for a while.

It isn't an NCT requirement. For any car. *looks at decatted '94 car with fresh NCT and smiles back*

Definitely has a cat, and the cat would be unaffected by being parked up. I'd imagine there's enough of them lining the scrapyards a replacement cat would be cheap enough even if there was a problem.

100% comes with a cat, even if it is damaged they are fairly cheap as parts for these cars are in abundance ;)

I stand corrected. I was sure it used to be a requirement.

Its not so much the cat itself that is required, but the car has to pass the emission test, which on most standard cars, a cat would be needed to achieve.

    However the NCT manual says:

"Check visually in the case of 4 stroke spark ignition engines (petrol or gas) that the emission control system is complete and
properly connected and that there are no leaks in the exhaust system."

This could be read that a missing cat alone is a reason to fail regardless of the emission readings.
