i'm gonna replace the hard disk for a bigger one but am just wondering is there a way to transfer the contents of this one to the new one without a complete reinstall of the OSX cd?

    Yes.

    1. Buy your increased capacity 2.5" form-factor drive from your preferred supplier

    2. Buy a an externally powered 2.5" drive enclosure

    3. Remove original drive from iBook and install it in the drive enclosure

    4. Install drive from step 2. into iBook

    5. Connect old drive in enclosure to iBook via USB (or FireWire) cable and start iBook (it will automatically boot from drive enclosure)

    6. Erase, partition and name new drive in Ibook using Disk Utility on old drive

    7. Download an application like Carbon Copy Cloner from internet and install it on the old drive

    8. Run Carbon Copy Cloner using old drive as source and new drive as target

    9. In System Preferences... select the new drive as the Startup Disk

    10. Bingo. Simplez ...
