No hot press?

    Hi,
I am looking at buying a house and one possibly very important thing we have noticed is there is no hot press, and seemingly no hot water tank in the house. There is a small boiler attached above the bath, and there are a couple of boilers attached to various sinks in the house. There are radiators in the house, which I think are heated by gas.

I have no experience in plumbing/heating/electrics at all, so I don't know what this really means. The house is an executor sale, so there is no vendor to ask and the estate agents don't seem to know much. Is this a common occurance, to have no hot water tank? or does there have to be one located somewhere in the house?

Also, if anyone would have any advise on how much it would cost to install a new hot press/water tank, it would be very much appreciated. I know its next to impossible to give quotes without seeing the house or knowing the full extent, but ballpark ideas would be welcome. The house is a 1920's house in Dublin.

    Cheers

Impossible to qoute. Lot of work involved though. You'd need two pipes from boiler to hp location. Then you need to run a pipe from cylinder to all hot points in house. could be lots of hassle and digging/taking up floors.

Get the agent to let you in again so a plumber can price the job.

are the various boiler gas or elec powered.

Is there a cold water tank in attic or is it all off the mains

Given this vintage setup I would think you would be looking at a complete rewire also.

While SWMBO may have different ideas, you dont 'have to' have a HP/HWT.

Modern combi gas fired boilers are v good for instant hot water so dont get too hung up on it unless u are over ruled:D

Thank you both for the replies. I will show them to my husband as hopefully he will understand a bit more than I do! There is an old shed just outside the back door, which may house a boiler, so maybe that would help us out? Its good to know a hot press/tank is not an essential, I just didnt know if it was something we had to get or not..
    Cheers.
