Depends on your internet connection and the size of the file. HD files are much larger than SD.

    What speed is your broadband?

Hmm 2megs isn't the fastest these days, alas. On my 7mbs connection it usually takes between thirty minutes and an hour (depending on file size), so you could be waiting three times that long. Luckily, Apple's servers are super fast so downloads tend to remain at a consistently high speed. You can start watching the film before it finishes downloading, though.

    iTunes 720p is about 4Mbps.

So that means is that a 2hr movie would take 2hrs to download if you had exactly a 4Mbps connection. If you only had a 2Mbps connection it would take 4hrs.

iTunes SD bitrate is around 1.5Mbps. So on a 2Mbps connection it should take slightly less than the movie runtime to fully download.

As mentioned, you can pre-buffer, so that you start watching before it has fully downloaded. iTunes should work out automatically when you can start watching in order to avoid more buffering mid-way.

Also all those figures above are too exact in the real world. You need to allow some leeway because you rarely get your full speed 100% of the time.
