I imported a C230 Mercedes form the USA 2 years ago i brought it for its first NCT on friday it failled with a problem concerning the haedlights
The Inspector explained that UK Irish cars headlights shine straight ahead and flow of to the left into the ditch but because my car is a right hand drive the oppisite happens meaning the lights shine straight and flow of to the right into oncoming traffic . he also explained that with the BMW you can adjust the headlights to resolve this problem and i was wondering is this possible with the Mercedes too.

Some xenon lights you can move a lever to change from left to right. If this type of adjustment is not possible on yours, you should look around and try to find out if 2 used irish headlamps are just a straight fit - i.e. check that wiring is the same etc.

Your lights will have been seriously dangerous to oncoming traffic and really you shouldnt be driving it until corrected.

Standard headlight can't be changed from rhd to lhd as its the design of the reflector that dictates the beam.

OP, in your case I think a pair of Irish spec headlamps are your only option.

OP, have you sorted your problem? I also have a LHD Mercedes which we nct'ed recently, so can talk you thru what we did if you are still looking for a solution
You do not need to buy a new set of headlights...

There is a little lever inside the majority of headlights called a tourist lever this doesn't change them from LHD to RHD but instead just flattens the beam, don't know if this is enough to pass an NCT or if your particular car has this lever.
