    Hi all,

We have a 96 diesel polo here. It was going fine apart from cutting out couple of times but one day the wife told me there was clicking noise coming from under bonnet and she didnt want to drive it. When I got home I discovered the fan belt was splitting right down the middle. There is a few mechanics in my town so I asked one that used to come into work (service station). The car started for him even tho it had been lieing idle for a few months and he took it away. He had told me if I was ever selling it to let me him know (it was a good bus). He took it away and we gave him the money to get parts for service and fan belt.

Following week he comes back to the wife and says the car is f**ked there is teeth missing off the timing belt. The wife told him to bring it back upto the house. We were trying to get it back from him for about 2 months untill eventually the wife told him she was reporting it stolen and was going to tell the guards where to find it. He had it back up that day. I pushed car back in 5th gear and then pulled forward watching belt turn full way and suprise suprise. No teeth missing.

I replaced the timing belt myself cause he gave back the wrong size with the car and i also put in a new glow plug fuse as the other was faulty. The battery is totally flat now and My dad tried to jump it off a jeep. Lights and all came on in dash but there is a clicking noise coming from engine. 2 of the solenoid values were loose so he tightened them up but still nothing. Any ideas? Is it just battery is dead hence the clicking or something more sinester?

Bear in mind he told me if I was ever selling it to give him a shout, then comes back with its f**ked and hung onto it for as long as possible before being forced to give it back to us the registered owners.

    Sorry for long spiel :D

Did you leave the leads on for a while before starting it. You should have left lights etc off..
