As much as having a gay friend can help from time to time...I don't think sexuality is in the top 10 factors that would make me be friends with someone.

Just a thought that someone who understands you doesn't always have to have had the same experiences. My advice look for a true friend. Setting parameters only limits the opportunity and excludes about 90% of the population.
