What team / players to focus on for the Euro Finals

Well done tonight, pretty certain they have done enough to qualify.

After the game Eamonn Dunphy stated that he would like Trap to now open up and play a different brand of football in the finals. What is peoples thoughts regarding this?

What team would you play or think Trap will play?
Is there any chance that Trap will do this?
Will Seamus Coleman now be given a run in the friendlies?
Will Shane Long / Leon Best get a chance to prove themselves?
Is there any chance that Paddy Kenny will be brought back into the squad?
Is there any chance that an outcast like Stephen Ireland will see his career going down the pan and see this as a chance to resurrect it? (not saying he would be accepted back in)

Some great forthcoming discussions I feel.

What we know about Trap is that he is stubborn and doesnt like change (whether you agree with his methods or not, meh)

He wont change it and its probably right. What has virtually got Ireland there will be used in the tournament.

First major tournie in 10 years. Its just great to have involvement in the Summer!

Trap clearly isn't going to change his style of football or selection policy, and why should he? What he has done has gotten us to our first tournament in a decade.

I would like to see a friendly with the following involved:

    Seamus Coleman
    James McCarthy
    Marc Wilson
    Leon Best
    Wes Hoolahan
    Anthony Pilkington

    All deserve a chance, imo.

He isn't going to radically change his squad - maybe the last manager in the world to do that. Listing off 11 names, the majority of whom won't be flying to Poland/Ukraine.

Leon Best could score 20 goals for Newcastle this season, and he probably wouldn't make the squad.

Loyalty - for better or worse - is a key Trap characteristic.

    I dunno.

He is also very experienced and may realise that what got us there may not be the tactics to get the best results out there. That is we sit back that we are more likely to lose than showing a degree of adventure or attack minded.

You cannot really fault his achievements but hopefully a few more players will get the chance to prove themselves.

I really doubt he will do any drastic changes, I am pretty certain the squad we have now will be the squad going to the Euros. Wilson, Hoolahan, Pilkington and Best will definitely not be going to the Euros.

I'd agree that he'd have most of his squad in mind already. We should be looking to try some new players though. Pilkington, Hoolahan and McCarthy merit a decent chance of 90 minutes in a friendly. Paddy Kenny should be asked if he is interested in being involved in the squad.

Also if Darron Gibson wants to be in the squad he ought to leave United in January and try and get a move to a lower Premiership or Championship side as he has become the forgotten man.

I really hope that Best makes the squad.

I know it will be exciting to be in thefinalsforonlythe second time but Trap has a chance to do some tweaking. Lets hope he is open to that.

What has James McCarthy done to earn a chance?

My chief scout in Football Manager 12 said he has potential to be a good player :pac:

What has he done to warrent automatic exclusion from the friendlies? Nothing. He, like everyone else, deserves at least a chance to stake a claim at a place in the final squad.

I also think Kilbane deserves to be there, either as a player or as a coach, he's earned at least that.

Looking at the minutes played, I reckon we need to start giving the other 'keepers some game time to see if they are up to the task. No point in bringing someone who has played 0 minutes of football.

Based on Trap's selection policy, the majority of the team picks itself for me. I'd say he has 16-18 people already decided and only a injury will change any of them. Strikers will be the hardest to decide.

i seem to remember a few times him not showing up/withdrawing from call ups during the last year. you dont need a player like that when your trying to form a team that needs to be 100% focused on the task of winning games.

of course we dont know the full story but if speculation like that is in the media its not good for the team. id leave him out until trap thinks he is fully commited there is obviously something going on there. how can you trust a player to do the things you want from him on the pitch in competitive games when he wont even turn up for friendlies.

other players are jumping on those opportunities to impresses in friendlies and training and get picked for the big games. mccarthy isnt exactly a superstar yet so until he acts like trap wants then keep him out i say

who would you drop from the squad though? Especially if they are only to bring 4 strikers, though even with 5 I wouldnt be sure if he'd make it.

The way I see it atm the pecking order would see Keane, Doyle, Long, Walters and Cox all ahead of him so unfortunatley its not as easy as saying drop Keogh for example. Plus as Cox is supposidly seen as the guy who can play Keanes role in his absence and we know Trap likes to stick to a system/style of play he would obviously then be more likely to be taken also despite imo being the 5th best of the 5 I suggested were already ahead of Best.

Id expect if Best keeps any form like he has now that he should get a chance in a friendly but id expect him to be on the reserve list for the Euro's atm.
