contact lenses and diving??

    Hi all!
Hope this doesn't seem like too stupid a question but i was just wondering is it possible to go diving wearing contact lenses??
my OH wants to go diving while we're on holidays but i'm blind as a bat without my glasses or contacts. i'm afraid that wearing a mask would damage my glasses (catching and squeezing the frames or bending the legs of my glasses) and i'm not sure how contacts would react to salt water. prescription goggles would not be feasible as this would be my first time diving and dont want to spend a fortune getting a prescription mask i might never use again.
Has anyone any experience of diving with contact lenses?? any advice or help would be appreciated, thanks!

If they are daily disposables and your mask is water tight there is no reason you can't wear them comfortably. Just make sure you change them for a fresh pair not long after the diving. (Water and contacts do not mix) If you wear longer term lenses, get dailes before you go. Soooo much handier anyway while away.

The mask damaging your glasses is the least of your worries: with the arms of your glasses in the way, your mask simply won't be able to exclude water.

Contact lenses are fine for diving.

You can get stick on lenses that you can put inside your mask. Try Google.

I've friends who wear daily disposable lenses surfing you'll be fine. Just change them after diving and enjoy. Where are you going?

Just back from holidays...did a try dive with Blue Planet Tenerife. they took us out to see turtles :D had an amazing time! its such an eye-opener to a whole new world! loved it so much i ended up doing the PADI basic scuba course so now i'm officially a SCUBA Diver, am thrilled. i've always been fairly nervous of the sea so was a big deal to just get me off the boat but i loved it! contact were no bother at all...my eyes stung a fair bit alright after i got some water in them in the mask clearing skills but i just surfaced, gave eyes a quick rub and was ready for action again. thanks again for the advice about the contacts guys, it gave me enough reassurance to give diving a go and it was amazing!

Be careful when clearing your mask. The jostling can dislodge your lenses. It happened to me mid dive and I had to do the ascent practically blind.
