Signed up for this - a great one to keep you honest over the Christmas period and to burn off all that turkey and ham!

Hmm after last years embarrassing effort at this race (I crawled around in 18.30, totally hanging and not fit, must be my slowest ever 5k!), I have to make up for that this year ha!

First 300 entrants for the New Years Day TBM 5K race will receive a technical T-shirt - see pic attached.

@Timmaay, there are team prizes; first 3 men's and women's teams (3 to score).
Its a fast course and I'm hoping that with a windless day I might try and shave a few seconds off a PB I set in the Jingle Bells.

    Prizes:
    First Three Men and Women
First Three Men’s and Women’s Teams (3 to score)
    First Veteran Men and Women 0/35, 0/40, O/45 & O/50

What's the story with the route - will it be on the paths for Chesterfield? If so, since it's a 2 lap course will this not be a bit messy with people overlapping others?

BTW I'm more concerned about people overlapping me than me lapping others

I've done it a few times before and never have had hassle with lapping, its a good wide course. Wind can be an issue as the course is exposed, and seeing as its the middle of winter, wrapping up warm is a good idea!

Agree it would be grand if there were no roadworks on chesterfield so it would be nice and wide then. Because of the roadworks though, I assume we will will have to move onto the footpath.
I guess I'm asking how are they going to cope with the finish line on the footpath when you have both people finishing and people continuing onto the next lap? The footpaths on chesterfield are not particularly wide.

Last year I had a half arsed New Year's Eve and then ran a half arsed 5k - this year I'm having a quality NYE and a sleep in ;)

Did this race in 2009 (i think) when I first joined LVAC, a great course and a nice PB that day I remember :) Have been mad to do it since but I head home/west for the holiday period.

Expertly ran race and a great way to start 2012, wish I could be there this year :(. Best of luck to all the boardies that do turn up!

Looks good and weather suggests it'll stay dry for race (at moment anyway).

Think I might give this a shot for a pb if so.

Been meaning to do this one for years, looks like I'm definitely being a hermit on NYE so may as well give it a whack.

I assume there's a registration table on the furze road somewhere? and some sort of baggage drop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭Fazz

Yep register up to 11:30 and prob a bag drop too.

    What's your pb RQ?
Am I gonna get chicked? :(

Not a chance of getting chicked by me unless you turn up in your party gear from the night before and finish off a bottle of champagne while you're running. My pb is 23 something, unless there's an epic disaster I see that being smashed somewhat.

@racoonqueen, the Race Registration tent will be at the main road (Chesterfield) end of the Furze Road. Best to come dressed to run - there's no formal baggage zone.

Online entry for the race closed at midnight 28/12. Entries €25 on the day up to 11:30 AM, race start 12.00 noon. Tech T-shirt to first 300 entries for the race. Hope to see you all there.

Good race, well organised. €25 is a bit steep for a non-chip timed 5k. Can't complain about anything really though.

21:31 watch time for me. Happy enough, probably could have put a bit more effort. Shouldn't be able to chat during a 5k but much better than other attempts at this distance for me.

When are the team prizes announced?

Nice race, can't fault it for anything, and how often do you get the chance to run with Fionnuala Britton? ;)

Felt a twinge of disappointment when I saw the 18:2x on the clock, but considering that I haven't done any speedwork and ran up a mountain yesterday it's all I could hope for, realistically, I suppose.

Nice to meet a few boardsies as well.

Was going to run but the 25 euro turned me off. Forgot to enter before cut off date.

I've reset some of the poll options.
May I remind everyone that these polls are supposed to be filled in by people who have run the race, after the race has taken place. Some of the votes up to now were by people who haven't been online in a week

Enjoyed this one today. I entered online so it was 19euro, not too bad. Only complaint was that I had to carry my free tshirt because I didn't ask anyone to hold it for me  I did expect a chip but I reckon I was only a few seconds behind the gun so my time will be close enough, no big deal. I was hoping for anything sub 25 and I finished in 23:25 (by my watch). Nice course, nice race, will do this again.:)

Fun race- drank 5-6 beers last night so probably wasn't at my best- ran 17:4x happy enough with that for New Year's Day- was cool running in a race w/ the reigning European Champ and I really liked the course....

Nice event, a bit pricey though for a 5k without chip timing. The transition from road to path and back to road at the corners where the main road is dug up were a little bit dodgy and required some careful footwork, other than that I couldn't fault the race or the organisation etc..

A great start to the new year!

Congratulations to Fionnula Britton and John Coghlan who were 1st in the women and mens race this lunchtime. Full results to follow. Some pictures from the race are up on racepix and on the Liffey Valley AC facebook page. Thanks to everyone who took part for supporting the race and for your feedback.

Enjoyed today, nice friendly bunch of organisers and runners. Ended up going over the start line a few seconds after everyone else but was counting on the chip (concealed somewhere in the bib, some genius told me - I'm a rookie so believed him) to eventually reveal the correct time.

With no chip, I had to rely on my watch which I had 'user issues' with (hence being late across the start!).

All in all, a learning experience time-wise and a pleasant experience all round.

I enjoyed today's race - the course couldn't have been flatter and it was well organised with plenty of friendly faces around. I had pre-registered so I was happy enough with the cost. Chip-timing would be nice for next year if the cost is feasible. Either way I'll race it again; chips or not!

Provisional results (category winners and teams) are on the Liffey Valley AC website at http://www.liffeyvalleyac.com/race/Tom-Brennan-Memorial-5k/219/ along with some short video clips. Full results will be posted on the website as soon as possible.

I enjoyed the race. The wind was favourable - only a head wind for a portion of the Furze Road stretch.

I finished in 19m10s - very happy with that considering I didn't do much training and a brutal night's sleep the night before (no alcohol to blame though).

I surprised myself as I passed about 7 or 8 people on the 2nd lap.

Didn't run this year but was there to watch, it has to be said that someone should shoot the steward who left a car down Ordnance Rd after the gun had gone off, I didn't see when the car met the lead Garda bike but it looked like it was going to be somewhere around the first bend.

Great race from Liffey valley, always a decent standard to test yourself against. One minor quibble though, the feckin' corners kill me every time. I'm terrible at taking them and every corner we hit I'd lose a yard on the lad I was racing and have to kill myself to make it back up. Any chance of changing the course, just for me?
    Cheers.

Results are now updated on LVAC website at http://www.liffeyvalleyac.com/race/Tom-Brennan-Memorial-5k/219/

@tunguska the course is likely to stay - you'll have to work on your cornering :)

Thanks again to all who supported the race and for the feedback.

The updated results don't seem to have a sheet listing all finishers, an earlier copy did.

Would it be possible to add the "All Finishers" sheet again please? I am always interested in my overall finishing position (I see my M40 group position) and how many finishers there were.

@daymobrew Look like an M45 filter was inadvertently left in on the Individuals worksheet (extreme lefthand side). Will be sorted asap and full list of finishers should show up there then.
